TOPICS 4 ANOTHER DAY
Where We Talk About Tomorrow’s Issues Today
In GOD We Trust?
Tithing is a much debated topic in the church. There are those who say it is required of Christians, while others state it is no longer relevant under grace. Certain preachers, who were once adamant advocates of the tithe, have now found themselves arguing against it, at least not in the requisite form. Is the evidence against the practice truly that persuasive? The canonized New Testament does spark thought on the matter when broached, even in its simplest and most straight forward form. Are Christians required to tithe?
Minimum Intentions
Minimum wage is a prime example of a policy being judged by intent rather than outcome. Those who advocate for it, amongst the citizenry, have the greatest of intentions, however, what actually transpires as a result of these intentions never meets the lofty goals of pay equality, poverty combatance, or the like. Politics and economics today are riddled with the short term and the seen. One cannot entirely blame the public for succumbing to such illusions, but folly remains folly whether accidental or purposeful. Intent means nothing when the consequence brings destruction.
Exceptional or Just an Exception
This idea that a specific majority effectually limits the potential success of any minority group has grown to be a commonly traveled train of thought in today’s America. A notion that feeds an impression that the efforts of these minorities toward socioeconomic equality is rendered null and void due to methods of systematic racism and discrimination. Because of this outlook, when members of these disadvantaged collectives find themselves to be successful in such a preemptively rigged system, they are considered to be the exceptions…
Do Republicans have the Balls?
To date, not one “red state” in the union has implemented a voucher system nor any measure of school choice. The republican idea of pushing back is passing legislation outlawing the teaching of CRT. This is far from a fix, for it fails to address the core issue with the education system—the centralized power of government.
The Question of Abortion
Murry N. Rothbard’s argument in favor of legal abortion in a free society challenged me and bumped against my strong religious foundation. I believe in property rights, of which self-ownership is key, but acquiescing to such a posture left me uncomfortable and unsettled. How can one reconcile one’s belief in the protection of the unborn child’s life, while maintaining a woman’s freewill over her own body?
Which Laws Prevent Gun Violence
Recently, President Joe Biden, through executive action, sought to pressure congress toward gun control legislation. A topic where the left seems to pick and choose its applicability based on political expediency. They accuse widespread access to firearms as the problem; therefore, they believe that limiting gun access will address the problem. Sounds simple enough but allow me to pose this question to the reader. “If a person has decided to break the primary law of do not murder, then what is the applicability of a gun law?”
Fall Into the Wage Gap
The argument of women getting paid less than men as a result of discrimination is a common theme amongst social justice and equality activist these days, however, such claims do not stand under scrutiny. Suppose women made 75% for every man’s 100%. A given business could hire less women, at the lower rate, with an equal level of output as men at the higher rate, or that business could hire more women at the lower rate for a greater level of output.
